24p vs 30p

I was wondering what the big difference in quality is between 24p and 30p? I understand that 30p is 30 fps and the same for 24p, and that film is shot in 24p, but can you really tell a difference in how it looks?

It's just the fps difference, 24fps makes it look more like a "cinematic" clip, but generally 30fps/60fps has smoother movement which is better for watching action sports videos in my opinion. I've considered to get myself a ntsc system camera (30/60fps) instead of my current PAL (25/50fps) to get smoother movement if it ends up being a webedit since webvideos are hosted usually as 24fps, 25fps or 30fps videos.

^^Ya what Madis said is right on. Personally, I usually shoot all action sports stuff in 60fps, then I conform it to 24 or 30 then speed it back up so it plays in real time, but I have the option of ramping the speed down depending how slow I might want it (60fps converted to 24 is slower than to 30). --if that made any sense haha

yea i have a 60p camera. it was pissin me off for awhile cuz with vegas pro it blurs the two frames together when you downgrade it to 30fps. and it was making my video look crappy. i figured it out tho. and so basically its all preference?

It shouldnt do that. Make sure the project settings and rendering settings are all correct/same. I wish i could help with the vegas settings, but im not on my laptop that has vegas atm.

If you have a 60P camera, whew use that, slowmo will look amazing. I have a feeling you mean 60i though.

24 FPS is the rate that film cameras record at. When you goto the movies, you are watching 24P (most of the time)

30P is what deinterlaced 60i footage becomes. Shooting at 30P is smart if you don't want to deinterlace and don't plan on slowmoing.

60i is your regular framerate, especially for SD cameras. Its decent for slowmo, but it is interlaced.

90% of you guys probably don't know what interlaced and progressive footage is so maybe I'll do a little write up on that.
